94 Calls to Truth and Reconciliation
In summary, the 94 Calls to Truth and Reconciliation acknowledge the horrific past of residential schools; systems have since been created to ensure that it does not happen again. The council had seven goals, and these goals recognized the importance of acknowledging residential school experiences and providing support for former residential school students. The residential school’s primary goal and focus was to eliminate Aboriginal governments and ignore their rights, which still affects Indigenous people today. Many cultures and languages were lost. As an educator, it is essential to acknowledge all cultures and races. Young children need support from educators; in my class, I would make it a point to learn words or phrases from other cultures to ensure that the child feels safe and supported in their environment.
